Sophie Scarlet Macaw

Sophie is a beautiful 7 year old Scarlet Macaw. She came to Forever Wild in July 2011. She plays bashful, is slow to warn up to new people, but once she gets to know you she gives you all of her love. Sophie loves music, and will dance for you, but only if you lead! She appreciates other animals and talks their ear off once she gets started! This beautiful girl comes from a very loving and energetic Cuban household. Sophie's family had to make the selfless decision to find her a home where she could make friends, and be a joy to others. For 6 months Sophie's family tried to find her a new home, but were not satisfied with places found. Sophie's family were able to find Forever Wild Animal Sanctuary and fell in love with our staff, animals, and location upon arriving to the 10 acre property. Sophie's family feels that we will honor Sophie and allow her to live the long life that she has ahead of her with a smile on her beak.

The Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) is a large, colorful macaw. It is native to humid evergreen forests in the American tropics. Range extends from extreme south-eastern Mexico to Amazonian Peru, Bolivia and Brazil in lowlands. It has suffered from local extinction through habitat destruction and capture for the parrot trade, but locally it remains fairly common. Formerly it ranged north to southern Tamaulipas. It can still be found on the island of Coiba. It is the national bird of Honduras.   wikipedia.org
