Ardie is a very vibrantly colorful bird and is a cross between a Scarlet Macaw and a Military Macaw. He also has a very funny sense of humor.  He will say ouch before he intends to bite you.  You certainly can't say he doesn't give you fair warning.  All kidding aside, this very playful and energetic parrot had a very loving home with a caring family.  A very terrible motorcycle accident left the family having to make major adjustments in their lifestyle.  With these changes it did not leave the extra leisure time to spend with Ardie.  The family made the decision to look for a suitable home for there beloved bird.  They heard about Forever Wild and thought to call us and make an appointment to come and check us out to just make sure there extended family member was going to a new home they rely on for care but was also still close enough for them to come and visit.  It was a perfect match.

Our new bird section of the sanctuary has provided all our birds including Ardie an enriching environment.  They get fresh fruits, vegies and a mixture of seed everyday.  Along with having toys galore, they also have enough room to stretch and decide what level perch they want to be on for the afternoon.  Next time you come by, look for Ardie he will enjoy ringing his toy bell for you and loves to say "What's Up".

The Shamrock Macaw is a very popular bird with two very popular types of macaws as its parents. The Scarlet Macaw, one of the most highly favored macaws, is described as "beautiful and striking". The Scarlet has been the best known South American parrot for over 100 years. The other parent, the Military Macaw, is also a long time favorite pet macaw with a good temperament, very trainable and highly intelligent.

Hybrid macaws are bred for color. Shamrock Macaws are a first generation hybrid macaw, meaning its parents are two species of naturally occurring macaws. Because they are a mixture of more than one type of macaw, the offspring are influenced by the traits and characteristics of both of its parents. Father's have the dominant gene, so this will generally influence the offspring's coloration and overall appearance.
